Do your homework - Learn as much as you can about the company beforehand – spend time reviewing the company's website. Ask educated questions based on the research you've done.
Develop a Value Proposition - What skills and abilities make you stand above the rest? Talk in terms of what you can do for the company. Sell yourself! When preparing your value proposition, put yourself in the shoes of the interviewer – what would you want to hear?
Role Play - Do a mock interview with career counselors, friends or family. Review common interview questions.
Eye Contact - Maintain eye contact with your interviewer. Good eye contact helps both of you stay engaged.
Be prepared to ask questions – Think of the interview as a two-way street. Ask questions to make sure the job and company are a good match for you. Make a list of questions that you would like to ask during the interview. Pick questions that will demonstrate your interest in the job and the company.
Be a good listener - Allow the interviewer to complete their question before answering. If you don't understand a question ask for it to be repeated. Display your listening abilities by re-stating and elaborating on topics mentioned in the interview session. How do your skills align with the company's goals?
Be Honest - Don't try to cover up mistakes. Focus on what you learned from them.
Display Confidence - Smile and be positive throughout the interview.
End the interview with a good impression - A positive end to the interview is another way to ensure your success. Remind the employer of why you are qualified for the job. Ask when you may contact the employer to learn of a decision.
Follow-up - It is essential that you follow up with a thank you note or letter within 1-2 days.
